Every lawyer who uses a computer, tablet or mobile device to process, transmit, store or access client information using the internet has data in the Cloud.

Compared to other technology trends in the legal profession, cloud computing has risen more rapidly, bringing with it both new advantages and risks for practitioners, particularly in relation to data protection and confidentiality.

Peter Moran and Loryan Strant will provide a comprehensive introduction to cloud computing, including the legal risks and issues with moving to cloud-based services and solutions that practitioners can employ to negotiate the cloud. Topics covered include:

• Regulatory aspects of running paperless offices
• Practicalities and ethics of cloud computing (particularly in relation to the storage, destruction and transfer of client files)
• Potential risks for firms using cloud computing services, including privacy and data protection issues, and solutions to these problems
• Practical tips and considerations that firms should consider prior to and while using cloud-based services
